What is Organic?
The basic definition of "organic" is "a compound containing carbon." Essentially almost every living organism on Earth is organic in nature. When we use the term organic for produce, meat, eggs, and milk, what it means is that the product has no inorganic compounds. Chemical fertilizers, poisonous pesticides, sewer sludge, organisms genetically modified by humans hands, ionized radiation, antibiotics, and growth hormones all would be considered inorganic compounds - or compounds not created by nature.
So what do you look for when buying food? The USDA has different definitions of what can be labeled organic.

Or course the best way to ensure that your food is safe and nutritious to get to know your farmer and buy local.
